Beauty/Brawn and Brains, Part 2: The Guys

2 114

Have you ever Googled an absolutely drop-dead gorgeous Greek God-looking celebrity and found out that the packaging was not only pretty, but the inside was pretty darn impressive as well? I’m talking about those celebs with brains to go with the looks, the Emma Watsons of the world.

In this second part of Beauty/Brawn and Brains, we explore the male celebrities who impress with both the looks and the books.

Read about the female celebrities in Part 1.

BRAWN AND BRAINS

Tom Hiddleston - Cambridge

Okay, Hiddleston isn’t exacly brawny, but you gotta admit that Loki’s alter ego is pretty damn sexy. Just read the comments on his YouTube videos. I thought I had it bad. This man has the perfect resume for a British actor. He was educated at a string of prestigious independent schools, namely the Dragon School and Eton College, before reading Classics at Pembroke College, Cambridge and graduating with a double first. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, he went on to train at the very prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. And he’s 6′ 2″. And he speaks God knows how many languages. And he sings and dances. Okay, I need to breathe. This man is perfect.

Eddie Redmayne - Cambridge

“A heart full of love…” This guy can sure melt our hearts with just his voice. But, as nature would have it, he has the looks as well. And the brains. Like Hiddleston, Redmayne is also a graduate of Eton College and the University of Cambridge. In fact, Redmayne was classmates with Prince William at Eton (a topic that has come up several times in interviews.)! Redmayne went on to earn a degree in history of art from Trinity College, Cambridge.

Chris Pine - Berkeley

Our dreamy, young, 6 foot, Abrams-edition James T. Kirk didn’t become Captain of the Enterprise without his intellect. Pine went to the prestigious University of California, Berkeley and graduated with a degree in English. He went on to study for a year at the University of Leeds in England! It’s no wonder he can keep up with Spock’s rapid highly-factual and overly-scientific/mathematical comments.

James Franco - UCLA, NYU, Columbia, Yale

How does James Franco do it? Partly from the genes he inherited from his Stanford-educated parents. After high school, Franco enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles, but left after a year to pursue acting. He returned to UCLA in 2006 and completed his English degree, graduating with a 3.5 GPA. He simultaneously attended Columbia University’s MFA writing program and New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts for filmmaking. He earned his MFA from Columbia, and is currently a PhD student in English at Yale University. And yes, he continued to work as an actor while attending these prestigious schools. Head’s up, ladies; James Franco is undoubtedly one of the hottest geniuses in the world.

Hugh Dancy - Oxford

I call him one of the “three Hughs”, all of whom are British and Oxbridge-educated (the other two being Cambridge-educated Hugh Laurie and Oxford-educated Hugh Grant). You don’t need to be a Shopaholic to fall in love with our dear Prada-speaking Luke Brandon. Like many of his well-educated fellow Brits, Dancy was groomed at a series of prestigious independent schools; he graduated from the Dragon School and Winchester College before finally studying English at St Peter’s College, Oxford. Oh, and this cutie is married to another brainy beauty; the Yale-educated Claire Danes. Their children are going to have some valuable genes.

Wentworth Miller - Princeton

This gorgeous, 6′ 1″ (not actually tattoo-covered) body and face of Prison Break‘s Michael Scofield is a Princeton man. Clearly inheriting the intelligence of his Rhodes Scholar father, who is a Yale and Oxford grad, and his mother, a teacher, Miller graduated from Princeton University with a degree in English. While at Princeton, he was a member of the all-male a capella group the Princeton Tigertones. Fancy a tall, handsome, educated man who sings Tigertown Blues to you? Wentworth Miller, check.

Freddie Stroma - UCL

I’ve frequently referred to him as “Cormac McLaggen from Harry Potter” or, to those who still return blank stares, “the guy in Pitch Perfect with the abs”. Freddie Stroma, born Frederic Sjostrom, is another actor who has it all. This London-born half-Swedish half-German actor speaks with that gorgeous British accent, sings, acted in the Harry Potter films and has a sculpted body. On the intellectual side, he went to the independent Radley College and has a degree in neuroscience from University College London. Brawn, check. Brains, check. Dreamy sighs galore.

Josh Pence - Dartmouth

I don’t know much about Josh Pence, except that he’s 6’3″, went to Dartmouth College, and, in The Social Network, was the body double of Armie Hammer (whom we all know is also very tall, hot and fit). That’s good enough for me.

Andrew Baldwin - Duke

Okay, this one is insane. Brawny, brainy and a Naval Officer! Like most girls, I have a terribly weak spot for men in uniform, especially officers. Baldwin, known for his appearance on Season 10 of The Bachelor (can you imagine he was available?!), was his high school valedictorian and graduated magna cum laude from Duke University. At Duke, he was a varsity swimmer and a Navy ROTC midshipman. He went on to graduate from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, and became a medical officer in the Navy. For ladies out there who like men in uniform, military officers, doctors, swimmers or well-educated guys, this man is all in one.

Dr. Travis Stork - Duke, UVA

If you thought Andrew Baldwin was perfect, I’m pleased to announce that there’s two of him! Well, almost two. Another Bachelor, another doctor, another Duke man. This insanely cute host of The Doctors is Travis Stork, an emergency physician. Stork graduated magna cum laude from Duke University and earned his degree in medicine from the University of Virginia . He was on season 8 of The Bachelor and, like Baldwin, eventually broke up with the woman he chose. He’s married to another doctor, though. Well done, you.
