It is hard to not be obsessed with the idea of fiction and storytelling when you grow up an only child and your father is both a writer and a film enthusiast.

That formed the basis for my becoming a filmophile. The natural side-effect: reading and pop-culture are my other obsessions as well.

Some of my best friends growing up were a charismatic bunch by the names of Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Ross, Chandler and Joey (and by this, I do not discredit my actual, real-life childhood friends in any way). I have watched the Academy Awards before I was old enough to understand what it was really about. By the time I was 10, I had probably seen Titanic more than a hundred times. I know every line to Mean Girls that I can no longer watch the movie with my full attention (and no, you don’t have to wear pink on Wednesdays to sit with me).

Beyond my simple love for movies is an insatiable interest in how movies are made. As someone who loves acting (and quite unsurprisingly so), I have always been obsessively interested with actors, their backstories and their careers (naturally, Inside the Actors Studio is heaven for me to watch), and have researched on them since I discovered Google. From this emerged my worryingly-detailed mind palace of celebrity trivia and a shameless obsession for pop culture.

To give a snapshot of my fangirl profile, my holy trinity of actresses consists of Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore and Jennifer Lawrence. If I had to narrow it down to one, my obvious favourite would be J-Law (if you have not already guessed). I was a huge fan of Shia LaBeouf during his Golden Age (circa 2007-2010), but now I just listen to my hormones and go with whichever actor catches my eye. Music-wise, I go rock-concert-wild for film soundtracks, and Hans Zimmer is king of my metaphorical iPod (besides Taylor Swift).

On a side note, I am also obsessed with royalty from all over the world, though this is a hereditary family interest rather than a result of my imagination-heavy upbringing. Yes, my admiration for Kate Middleton qualifies me as a third-generation royal fanatic (by way of my mother’s love for Princess Diana and my maternal grandmother’s love for Queen Elizabeth).

I have interned as a journalist and written about news, entertainment for children, events and (of course, my personal favourite) movies and popular culture.

As a college student (political science major) with a jam-packed schedule, I am hoping to be forgiven for the irregularity of the posts on Talkiewood. Where my workload makes it difficult for me to write a full-length review, I have (hopefully) compensated by providing “quick reviews” instead. As much as I would love to write as often as I can, with impending adulthood comes responsibility (and hopefully, power. I believe in what Uncle Ben said).

But that has not stopped me from babbling about my obsessions to the world (I am quite annoyingly loquacious, and even more so with a keyboard). I am currently a freelance entertainment writer.
